Halfmoon Trailhead - Tuhares Lakes
A meteor shower at 12,000 ft.
12 miles to sleep on the ground, eat out of bags, live with nature for 2 nights, and the most unforgettable "shower".
The Details
A trail with unassuming beauty that takes you to a 3 course meal of lakes. After 1,700 ft. of elevation gain over 6 miles you are greeted by peaks chiseled at by the hikers of the early morning, fish who haven't seen the flies in your pack, and a reflective lake showing you how hard you worked to see it all.
For the Gear Heads
- The pack – Gregory Facet 55: This is a lightweight pack that provided stability thanks to the FreeFloat ultralight suspension, comfort by the Comfort wrap, breathable shoulder harness, and breathability from the Ventilated mesh backpanel for roughly 4 hours and with a total weight of 35 lbs.
- The boots – Salomon X Ultra Alpine Mid GTX: These boots provided the ankle support needed when it felt more like rock climbing than it did hiking, and the breathable GORE-TEX technology allows you to walk through creeks with no hesitation.
- The stove – MSR Switch Stove: The efficiency of the rounded Switch pot bottom and performance of the pressure regulator made meals that much easier to enjoy.
